Integrated Lithium Niobate Mach-Zehnder Interferometers for Advanced Modulation Formats
We present recent progress of high-speed Mach-Zehnder modulator technologies for advanced modulation formats. Multi-level quadrature amplitude modulation signal can be synthesized by using parallel Mach-Zehnder modulators. We can generate complicated multi-level optical signals from binary data streams, where binary modulated signals are vectorially summed in optical circuits. Frequency respons...
متن کاملQuadrature Amplitude Modulation
The simplest type of digital modulation involves transmitting a sequence of waveforms (“symbols”) si(t) of equal durationT where eachwaveform is chosen independently from a set of M. This allows us to transmit up to b = log2(M) bits per symbol. A common sets of such symbols are those where the real and imaginary parts of the complex baseband signal are each modulated in amplitude. This known as...
متن کاملQuadrature Mach–Zehnder interferometer with application in optical coherence tomography
A novel quadrature interferometer based on Mach–Zehnder configuration and a 3 × 3 fibre coupler is presented. Measurements showing instantaneous extraction of both real and complex parts of the interferometric signal are described. The features of this quadrature interferometric platform are discussed with a focus on signal-to-noise ratio and optical power handling.

In this paper we demonstrate highly linear Mach-Zehnder interferometer modulators utilizing heterogeneous integration on a Si substrate (HS-MZM). A record high dynamic range was achieved for silicon devices, obtained using hybrid III-V/Si phase modulation sections and single drive push-pull operation, demonstrating a spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) of 112 dB∙Hz2/3 at 10 GHz, compa...

An ultra-compact photonic-crystal silicon Mach-Zehnder modulator is proposed based on the plasma dispersion effects. Transient time response of the device is simulated using semiconductor device simulator MEDICI. An efficient optical modulation has been experimentally demonstrated. ©2006 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (250.7360) Waveguide modulators; (230.2090) Electro-optical devices S...
